Rhythmic gymnastics is an Olympic women's competition. It is a women's sport in which the athlete holds a light instrument and cooperates with music and body movements. The 19th century began to appear in Europe. In the 1970s, China introduced this project.

Usually people can't tell the difference between "art gymnastics" and "athletic gymnastics". In fact, these two items are very different. Rhythmic gymnastics is only a women's event (having only men's rhythmic gymnastics in Japan so far), and no free-rolling action is permitted during the competition. Rope, hoop, ball, stick, and band are used as instruments. In gymnastics, there are women and men, and the devices used are different. The women are balanced wood, uneven bars, vaulting horses and floor exercise. Men are horizontal bars, parallel bars, rings, vault, pommel horses and floor exercise.

"RG" is an abbreviation for "Rhythmic Gymnastics". China and Russia are known as "art gymnastics" and are called "new gymnastics" in Japan and "rhythmic gymnastics" in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
